Guide
The Calescent Shalewing mount is obtained by completing the Zaralek Cavern themed meta achievement, Que Zara(lek), Zara(lek). This achievement is comprised of several smaller achievements for doing various activities in Zaralek Cavern.
The achievements are all pretty simple and easy to complete besides one. That achievement requires maximum reputation with the Loamm Niffen, which is timegated so it takes to complete. Due to this, I believe the achievement will take several weeks to complete without any rep bonuses. In this guide, I will go over each achievement one by one below.
First, let’s start with how to unlock Zaralek Cavern. Check the dropdown below for info.
How to unlock Zaralek Cavern
In order to start the patch 10.1 campaign to open the Zaralek Cavern, you first need to complete the Forbidden Reach campaign up to the A Creche Divided quest.
Finishing the Scar of Earth and Fire quest on one character will unlock tunnels to the Zaralek Cavern for all your characters but the Forbidden Reach campaign still needs to be completed or skipped on each character separately to get access to the 10.1 campaign.
The beginning quest that will lead you into the Zaralek Cavern is called The Land Beneath, which is picked up from Hadexian on the left side at the top of the Seat of the Aspects.
Coords: 51.6 35.2
/way #2112 51.6 35.2 Hadexian
This questline is the first chapter of the 10.1 campaign and completing it will grant you access to all main features of the Cavern.
As for getting down into the Cavern, there are three possible entrances. The most conveniant is very close to Valdrakken in Ohn’ahran Plains. There’s also another entrance in Azure Span near Brackenhide Hollow. and the last is in western Ohn’ahran Plains near Teerakai
Now, on to all the achievements!
There’s No Place Like Loamm
This is the achievement that requires a rep grind so you should start working on it as soon as possible. You need to reach 20 (max) renown with the Loamm Niffen. To unlock the faction, you will need to complete the 2nd chapter, Breaking Ground, of the 10.1 main campaign where you are introduced to the niffen people. I would recommend fully completing the campaign as it is required for the achievement listed below and gives about six full levels of renown.
There are a few more ways to gain reputation with Loam Niffen:
- Weekly quest (Make sure to pick up A Worthy Ally: Loamm Niffen from Mimuup in Loamm each week FIRST as it requires you to get 1500 reputation to complete)
- Side quests (There are several optional quest chains that reward reputation at the end. Starting quests for them all: Mouse Detective, Slime Time Live and A Swallow’s Tale. There’s also Myrrit’s Best Friends quest, which then leads to The Heavy Crown. Complete main campaign first before doing these!)
- World quests (75 rep each, new ones daily)
- Researchers Under Fire weekly event (Begins every half hour in the middle of the Zaralek Cavern. The reward bag has four tiers, rewarding a stacking 250 rep per. You’ll want the highest tier bag for 1000 rep so I’d suggest joining a raid group as it is difficult to achieve without a lot of people. After you have obtained the max tier bag for the week, subsequent bags will only give 50 reputation so it is not recommended to do more than once weekly.)
- Events (Various small events in the zone which give 50 reputation each. They are shown on map by a tiny yellow horn. Lockout seems to be 4 days.)
- Sniffenseeking (Activity you can do with Myrrit in Loamm. You can do up to three digs a week. One of the digs will give you a 250 rep insignia weekly. This insignia is bind on account so you can do this on alts and send it to your main for more rep. After renown 9, you can find quest inside the sniffenseek dig areas that award 200 rep each and there’s 9 in total.)
Other rep tips
You can purchase Contract: Loamm Niffen (three star) from the auction house to gain 15 rep with this faction every time you do a world quest in the Dragon Isles.
The Darkmoon Faire is in town the first week of every month. You can buy a ride ticket to ride the roller coaster or carousel which gives the WHEE! buff that increases your reputation (and experience) gains by 10% for 60 minutes. You can also buy the Darkmoon Top Hat for 10 Darkmoon Prize Tickets to be able to apply this buff without having to go to the Faire.
There are also yearly events that give reputation buffs such as Hallow’s End buffs Grim Visage (Horde) and Unburdened (Alliance) in October. In November, there is WoW’s Anniversary buff called Celebration Package and Pilgrim’s Bounty buff called The Spirit of Sharing.
In season four of Dragonflight, there has been a weekly rotating buff that increases reputation gains with certain Dragonflight factions by 50%. Loam Niffen rep buff would be under the Sign of Awakened Embers. It will stop rotating between factions in June and they will all remain buffed until The War Within presumably.
Embers of Neltharion
This achievement requires you to complete the patch 10.1 main campaign questline.
Remember to first do the Forbidden Reach campaign up to the A Creche Divided quest. You will then be able to start the 10.1 campaign with The Land Beneath, which is picked up from Hadexian on the left side at the top of the Seat of the Aspects. The final quest is Symbol of Hope, ending with Alexstrasza in Valdrakken.
If you ever get lost on which quest you should be doing next, I would strongly recommend downloading the addon BTWQuests with the Dragonflight module. This addon is very helpful because it shows you the order you need to do quests in as well as providing coordinates. You can also look at Wowhead as they have storylines listed too!
Sniffen Around
For this achievement, you need to find five out of nine special items while on Sniffenseek digs. This achievement will take a minimum of two weeks as you can only go on up to three digs per week. The first is given by Myrrit every week. The second will require you to purchase Bartered Dig Map from Ponzo in Loamm for 3 Barter Bricks or 1 Barter Boulder. You can only buy one a week. Lastly, you have a chance to get the third, Lost Dig Map, from Scentsational Niffen Treasures awarded upon completion of the weekly A Worthy Ally: Loamm Niffen.
NOTE: You will only be able to see special items on digs if you have reached renown 9 or higher with the Loamm Niffen.
To begin a Sniffenseek dig, speak to Myrrit in Loamm.
Select the begin the dig option and Myrrit will take you underground. You can pick him up to access extra abilities. There are many potential dig scenarios so I can’t really go over them all. You may have to solve little puzzles with Myrrit’s abilities, or it may be as simple as having tea with Mr. Sunflower. Some helpful advice I can give is that you can sneak past enemies with his Burrow ability. Burrow can also be used to unearth objects. The Sniff ability will lead you to important objectives. Lastly, you can put down Myrrit and he will stay in the same spot. This makes him useful for standing on pressure plates.
If there’s a special item on your dig, you will know as it’ll show an exclamation mark on your minimap. Once you’re done your dig, you can turn the item’s quest in for achievement progress as well as renown.
Adventurer of Zaralek Cavern
To complete this achievement, you need to defeat 10 of the 21 rare elites found around Zaralek Cavern. These rares are mostly all straightforward, however there are a few in caves. They all do a specific zonewide announcement when they spawn.
Zaralek Cavern rares are also unique in that they have a four day lockout. This is because the Cavern is divided into five zones. Every day, four of the zones are active. The fifth zone will be inactive, not spawning anything. Zone 1 (Caldera) is always active. The other 4 zones follow a counterclockwise rotation for which zone is inactive for the day: Zone 2 (Glimmerogg) > Zone 3 (Nal Ks’Kol) > Zone 4 (Loamm) > Zone 5 (Aberrus). Credit for killing a rare only resets when the zone is next active hence it taking four days. I would recommend this Google spreadsheet to check which zones are active in both NA and EU every day. Additionally, the rares will despawn if they are not engaged within 15 minutes of spawning.
It may be worth it to download an addon such as RareScanner or SilverDragon as they will give you a popup and audio notification whenever you’re close to a rare. You can also customize them if neither of those options sound particularly good to you.
See below for a map and coordinates of all possible rares.

Rare Notes
Alcanon, Flowfy, Kob’rok and Spinmarrow are all in caves, entrance coordinates provided in dropdown above.
Brullo the Strong often bugs out and doesn’t award loot or achievement progress. To try to combat this, do not leave the small arena when fighting him. Additionally, do not kill him when he is using his Arm-Ageddon ability.
Karokta has a low chance to drop the Cobalt Shalewing mount. As such, it is often very contested and will die quickly.
Professor Gastrinax is found in the back of his laboratory. Entrance also in dropdown.
Underlight Queen likes to fly around a bit before becoming targetable– she is not bugged.
The Smell of Money
This achievement requires you to earn 200 Unearthed Fragrant Coins. These can be obtained in two ways.
The first is from the Researchers Under Fire event that is up every half hour in the middle of the zone.
I would recommend finding a group in groupfinder for this if you’re not on a highly populated server. Having more people makes it easier to fully complete the event which will guarantee the best reward– the Indebted Researcher’s Gift that will award 60 Unearthed Fragrant Coins. The blue reward, Thankful Researcher’s Gift, gives 45 Coins. The green and white boxes give coins too but much less. You can’t get the same bag more than once a week per a character. But if you get, say, the green bag then you’ll still be able to get the blue and purple bags.
The second way to earn Unearthed Fragrant Coins is by completing little events scattered throughout the Zaralek Cavern. Each event gives either Clinking Dirt-Covered Pouch or Clanging Dirt-Covered Pouch which drop multiple Coins among other things. There are 18 different events in total. These events have a four day loot lockout, just like the rares. This also means that one zone of events will not be active each day so you won’t be able to complete them. The activities required to complete events range from putting a statue back together to lifting weights to feeding a lava hydra.
If you’re a person that likes to keep track of things on your screen, there is WeakAura you can download that is like an event checklist here. I’ll also include a map and coordinates for all the events below.
Lastly, upon reaching 100 Unearthed Fragrant Coins, you will be able to buy the Subterranean Magmammoth. Even if you’re not interested in the mount, I would highly suggest visiting that article if you’d like detailed instructions on how to do each and every event.

Explore Zaralek Cavern
To complete this achievement, you need to fly around and uncover all eight areas on the map. This should be simple and not take very long! All areas will be shown on the map below with coordinates provided.
The Buried Vault has two steps. It is originally intended to be a zone you only go to to complete a few quests, but you can technically be in the zone without ever doing them. First, head to the part 1 waypoint. Go into the cave that has blue glowing flowers outside of it.
Once in the cave, head to the part 2 coordinates. Once you’re in the back left room with green ore, it should count as being in the Buried Vault zone.

Stones Can’t Fly!
For this achievement, you need to earn 2000 Flightstones. Flightstones are a currency added in Dragonflight that you use to upgrade your gear. They are pretty easy to get as they come from almost all PVE content. This includes: treasures, quests, world quests, rares, world bosses, weekly events, dungeons, and raids.
I believe spamming dungeons, especially low M+, is the most efficient way to earn them. You will also gain extra Flightstones if the run awards M+ rating to any member of the group. However if you’d prefer not to do group content, you can definitely earn plenty by yourself with other methods. I would personally suggest weekly quests such as Shaping the Dreamsurge and Last Hurrah: Dragon Isles. The Emerald Dream has several easy weekly quests (do Superbloom, gain reputation with Dream Wardens and plant 3 seeds) that you could work on all at the same time pretty quickly.
