Guide
The Smoldering Ember Wyrm is a rare mount that drops in the Mythic Legion dungeon, Return to Karazhan. Similar to the Amani Battle Bear, this requires you to do a set of tasks within a time limit. In this instance you have to click on 5 different Soul Fragment (purple gems) and have a time limit of 20 minutes to activate the boss.
Head over to Karazhan in Deadwind Pass and you’ll find a catwalk with a blue glyph next to a door. Make sure your dungeon difficulty is set to Mythic and head in.
When you enter, you will get a message in the chat that says, “The strange chill of a dark presence winds through the air…” this starts an 8 minute timer for you to get to the first fragment, located in front of the audience of the Opera theater.
When you enter, make your way to the Opera Hall stage, where you’ll talk to Barnes to start a short RP then the fight begins. Be careful as you can bug the fight if you burst the boss too fast. You’ll be forced to alt+F4 out of the game only to reenter and try again.
Once you finish the fight you’ll make your way around to the audience, where you can click on the gem and get an 8 min Buff called Medivh’s Echo.
The next Soul Fragment will be in the 3rd room on the left of the Guest Quarters, just before The Maiden of Virtue. Click the Soul Fragment and get the 2nd stack, and another 5 more minutes.
Go into The Banquet Hall, jump over the ledge and kill Moroes. After you kill him, make sure to grab the keys that also drop on the ground, and click on the Soul Fragment behind the table, giving you a 3rd stack of the buff and an additional 5mins.
Go downstairs to the Servant’s Quarters and go into the large room at the top of the map and click on the gem for stack number 4, and another 5 minutes. Click on the portal to the entrance of the dungeon.
The 5th gem is in the Menagerie, where you’ll kill The Curator, and click on the gem that spawns between his feet.
After getting the 5th stack of Medivh’s Echo, it will change into Medivh’s Presence, and you will have 5 minutes to get down to the Master’s Terrace to talk to him.
Head back to the entrance where Khadgar is and on the left under the staircase will be a wooden door, this door will only be open if you picked up the keys from Moroes.
Medivh’s ghost will be standing at the middle point of the terrace, and when you speak to him it will start a RP and Nightbane will be summoned, where if you die, you can respawn and make your way back and try to kill it again.
*The Smoldering Ember Wyrm has an interesting drop chance at 20%, but changes depending on a set criteria.
Per Blizzard:
The mount has a 20% drop chance multiplied by the number of loot eligible players (even if they have the mount).
Note: The mount will only drop for someone who doesn’t have the mount.
For example: Player who are not loot locked = there is a 100% chance for the mount to drop
4 players who are not loot locked = 1 player who is loot locked = 80% drop chance
4 players who are not loot locked and have Nightbane mount + 1 not loot locked player without Nightbane mount = 100%. The player without the Nightbane mount gets the mount
4 Players who are not loot locked and have Nightbane mount + 1 loot locked player without Nightbane mount = 0% chance to get Nightbane mount (the only person who could get it is already loot locked)
4 loot locked players + 1 not loot locked player, none of whom have the mount = 20% drop chance. The mount would only go to the non-loot locked player.
Extra Tips
As this is a Mythic dungeon, you can only complete Mythic difficulty once per week, so run it on your alts for an additional chance if needed.
