Guide
The Clutch of Ji-Kun mount has a 3% drop chance from the boss Ji-Kun in the Throne of Thunder raid. The mount can drop from all difficulties of the raid except LFR. You can only complete the raid once per week per character.
How to get to the raid
Getting the raid is a bit different for each faction so I’ve broken them up accordingly. To start off, head to portal room of your capital city in either Stormwind or Orgrimmar. You’re looking for the Jade Forest portal.
Alliance
In Stormwind, it is on the right side of the portal room, the very first portal on the right hand side.
![](https://trueendgame.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/Screenshot_60.png)
Once you’re through the portal, fly northwest until you reach the Townlong Steppes. You’re looking to go right under the “A” in Shado-Pan Garrison. Head to the coordinates below.

/way #388 49.7 68.7
You should see a portal at the coordinates marked if you’ve been to the Throne of Thunder raid before.

If you do not see a portal, speak to Vereesa Windrunner nearby. She will give you the quest A Storm Gathers. Talk to her again and choose the dialogue option to proceed. You will fly with her to a ship. Once on the ship, make sure to turn in your quest to Jaina Proudmoore so you can use the portal for your next visit! You do not need to complete any more quests. Near the front of the ship, there is a teleportation orb you can click on.
![](https://trueendgame.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/Screenshot_46.png)
Interacting with the orb will take you to Za’Tual, which is the Alliance landing point on the Isle of Thunder. Scroll down past the Horde section for the rest!
Horde
In Orgrimmar, it is in the main portal room on the right side, between the Zuldazar and Dalaran, Crystalsong Forest portals.
![](https://trueendgame.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/Screenshot_57.png)
Once you’re through the portal, fly west until you reach the Townlong Steppes. You’re looking to go slightly west of Shado-Pan Garrison area, which is located on the coast with a bridge leading to Niuzao’s Temple. Head to the following location.
![](https://trueendgame.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/Screenshot_44.png)
/way #388 50.7 73.4
If you’ve been to the Throne of Thunder raid before, you should see a portal at that location.
![](https://trueendgame.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/Screenshot_58-1024x438.png)
If you don’t see one, speak to Scout Captain Elsia nearby and pick up her quest The Storm Gathers. Talk to Elsia again and choose the “I’m ready to go” dialogue option. You’ll fly with her on a Sunreaver Bloodhawk until you reach a ship. Make sure to turn in your quest to Lor’themar Theron so you can use the portal for your next visit! You do not need to complete any more quests. Near the front of the ship, there is a translocation orb you can click on.

Interacting with the orb will take you to Court of Bones, which is the Horde landing point on the Isle of Thunder.
FASTEST way to get to Throne of Thunder (for future reference)
Instead of travelling across the continent of Pandaria, there is actually a potentially faster way to get to the Throne of Thunder raid. It is a bit more complicated though. Firstly, you need to have completed The Storm Gathers quest I mentioned above.
Start in Jade Forest as normal but instead fly to the Vale of the Eternal Blossoms. Go to the balcony of the Mogu’Shan Palace. You want to be in the old Pandaria phase so make sure to switch OUT of 8.3 BFA phase if you’re in it by talking to Zidormi.

/way #390 81.3 32.1
Head inside. You should see three Scenario Storytellers to the right. You want to talk to Lorewalker Hun and select the “Last Stand of The Zandalari” option. This will put you in a queue for LFR. Accept it. Once you’re in the instance, use your Sunreaver Beacon (Horde) or Kirin Tor Beacon (Alliance) that you got from The Storm Gathers quest. You will be teleported to the boat before the Isle of Thunder. Click on the translocation orb and you’ll be on the island.

Lastly, right click your Raid Finder eye, wherever it happens to be on your screen and leave instance group. And you’re all done!
From this point forward, the experience will be the same for both Horde and Alliance players.
Head to the raid entrance. If you see the world boss, Nalak, that spawns in the sky in front of the entrance, make sure to kill him for a chance at the Thundering Cobalt Cloud Serpent mount.
Inside Throne of Thunder
Once you’re inside the raid, it’s pretty straightforward. I would recommend killing any trash you pass by if you care about transmog.
After you’ve killed Jin’rokh the Breaker, be careful on the next portion. The Spirit Flayer mobs have a circle around them. If you step into the circle, they’ll do knockback and you’ll most likely fall off the bridge and die. They can’t be killed so you’ll just have to dodge them.
![](https://trueendgame.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/Screenshot_47.png)
The bridges are very windy as well so make sure to fight against it so you won’t get blown off or knocked into the Spirit Flayers. This is more of an issue on the first bridge than the second. Killing the mob Stormbringer Draz’kil at the end of the gauntlet will cause the winds to disappear.
Afterwards, you’ll be in Horridon’s room. He takes awhile to break out of his cage. Horridon can also drop the mount Spawn of Horridon. If you choose the kill the trash after Horridon, make sure to kill the Shadowed Voodoo Spirits to get out of combat so you can mount up. They will spawn after you kill the original trash mobs. The trash in the middle of the circle in the second room must be killed before the door to Council of Elders will open.
Once you’ve killed the Council of Elders, you will go through two sets of doors until you reach the Stormbridge. If you walk too far out onto the bridge, unskippable RP that is mildly long will happen. To skip the RP, simply jump down on the right hand side.

The drop is far but you can angle it into the water to avoid fall damage. If you die– no worries! You will respawn down in front of the boss Tortos anyway.
Kill Tortos and move on to the next boss. DON’T head to where Megaera is right away. You need to first click on three bells to spawn the boss. The three bells always have an Eternal Guardian in front of them so you can use /tar Eternal to find them easily.

Alternatively, I will show the locations on the map below.

![](https://trueendgame.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/Screenshot_52.png)
Once you’ve interacted with the three bells, you can head down to Megaera. Megaera takes awhile to fight due to having many phases. Killing her heads will slowly chip away at her health. The heads don’t die right away even if you did oneshot damage. They seem to only die after she is done using her Rampage ability. She Rampages four times before she dies.
After Megaera dies, turn around and head up the ramp to the left. When going up the stairs in the Roost of Ji-Kun, be wary of the Gastropod snails.
![](https://trueendgame.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/Screenshot_54.png)
If they get close to you, you will die instantly. This is due to their Abrasive Radula debuff. It is best to avoid them completely unless you’re interested in their 0.8% drop chance toy– the Gastropod Shell. Once you’re at the top and can see Ji-Kun, you can jump off to get to her platform!
After Ji-Kun
If you plan on continuing the raid after trying for the Clutch of Ji-Kun mount, grab a glowing red Feather of Ji-Kun left on her platform.
![](https://trueendgame.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/Screenshot_55.png)
Getting the feather will give you an extra action button called Flight. You can then use this to fly up to the exit in the southwest.
I will briefly go over anything else I feel that should be mentioned in the rest of the raid too!
In the Watcher’s Sanctum, you must kill the Roaming Fogs on the platform and then the four Hidden Fogs around the room to get Durumu to spawn.
The rest of the raid is fairly simple if you just follow your map. You may have to open doors or go in a way that isn’t apparent at a first glance. An example of this is in the Hall of Kings room after defeating the Iron Qon. The door is in the left corner in the dark so it can be hard to see!
As for Lei Shen himself, make sure to oneshot him as quickly as possible or he will do a mechanic where he goes invulnerable for a bit and tries his hardest to knock you off his platform. I am unsure if this is just a mechanic on heroic or if it’s in normal too.
Speaking of heroic, if you did the raid on that difficulty, you actually get access to a thirteenth boss- Ra-Den. There is usually a cutscene showing where to go but in case one of your addons skipped it: you click on the Displacement Pad in the middle of Lei Shen’s platform after he is killed. It will put you in Primordius’ boss room with a new stairway leading downward. Follow the stairway to the very bottom, open two doors and you’ll see Ra-Den. He was actually a secret boss back in Mists of Pandaria! In the Adventure Journal, it does not list his abilities whatsoever. Additionally, players only had 30 attempts at him per week before being locked out and having to try again the next week.
