Guide
The Deepstar Aurelid mount is obtained by fishing up a Strange Goop, collecting some items to make it into an Aurelid Lure and then using it to summon the rare Hirukon in Zereth Mortis. Alternatively, if someone else fishes up Hirukon, you have a small chance of being able to loot the mount as well.
How to unlock Zereth Mortis
To get to Zereth Mortis, you must have completed chapter 2 in the 9.1 (Korthia) campaign. The last quest required is Charge of the Covenants. After it is completed, you should get a popup to start the Zereth Mortis (9.2) campaign. You get a portal to Zereth Mortis on the top floor of Oribos after completing the This Old Waystone quest which is part of the campaign. If you leave Zereth Mortis before completing that quest, you can speak to Tal-Inara in Oribos to return.
To start, you will need to fish in the waters around where Hirukon spawns. He spawns in the lake that’s north of the Catalyst Gardens zone.

You are looking to get Strange Goop which has a pretty low drop chance so it may take you a lot of attempts. This item is BOE and can be bought off of the auction house if you don’t wish to fish yourself.
Once you have your Strange Goop, you’re going to want to go to Baroness Vashj in Maldraxxus. She is near the bottom, fishing in a lake south of the Seat of the Primus. If you don’t have flying, you will need to use the entrance I’ve circled in red below to get there.

She will tell you that she can make an Aurelid Lure which you will later use to summon Hirukon. She requires 3 materials for this.
The first is Pungent Blobfish which you can fish up from Pungent Blobfish Cluster located inside the Coilfang Reservoir. The Coilfang Reservoir is a large structure located in the Serpent Lake near the middle of Zangarmarsh in the Outland continent. You can get there by using the Shattrah portal in the portal room of Stormwind or Orgrimmar (downstairs portal room) and then flying to Zangarmarsh.

Swim down in the middle of the structure pictured above. You will see a large metal hole with plants growing on it and bubbles coming off it. Swim down that hole. It’s a very narrow space that’s a bit hard to see in but keep going forward until you reach a large cavern. You surface in the pool you’re going to fish from. It’s in the very back, on the right side if you’re facing toward the Meeting Stone.
The next item is the Flipper Fish which is obtained by fishing from a Flipper Fish School located in northern Zin-Azshari in Nazjatar. The portal to Nazjatar can be found in the Zuldazar/Boralus portal room once you have completed the questline to unlock it. Once caught, the fish will slip away and start flopping on the ground pretty quickly. You will have to pick it up by clicking on it and completing a small channel. If the fish flops too far away, the channel will break.
How to unlock Nazjatar
To unlock Nazjatar, you must be level 50 and have completed the A Nation Divided quest if you’re Alliance or Welcome to Zuldazar if you’re Horde. You must also have the Heart of Azeroth unlocked which starts with A Dying World. Once you have done these steps, you should look for the quest The Wolf’s Offensive OR Send The Fleet given by Genn Greymane on the Alliance ship in Boralus if you’re Alliance. For Horde, you should look for the quest The Warchief’s Orders OR Send The Fleet given by Nathanos on the Horde ship in the Port of Zuldazar. Following the aforementioned questline will send you to Nazjatar.

The last item is Coilclutch Vine which is found in container that is located in Nar’shola Terrace in the Shimmering Expanse. You can get there by using the portal to Vash’jir (near the other Cataclysm portals in either Stormwind or Orgrimmar) and flying south to the Shimmering Expanse.
If you haven’t unlocked the portal, you can get to Vash’jir by flying west from Dun Morogh Coast or Stormwind Harbor though fatigue may kill you if you aren’t fast enough. If you’re doing this method, I would also suggest bringing Elixir of Greater Water Breathing if you are not an undead or warlock/druid.
The Coilclutch Vine is located in the corner of a tower’s balcony which is on the second platform from the top. The container is bit hard to see as it is the same color as its’ surroundings. Hopefully the pictures below will help with clarity as describing with words is difficult. I swam out to the eastern side of the ruins to take these screenshots for a better view.

Once you have all 3 ingredients, return to Baroness Vashj at her previous location listed earlier in this guide and turn them in. She will give you the Aurelid Lure. Right clicking on it will consume it and apply the buff Aurelid Lure to you, which allows you to see the Aurelid Cluster located in Hirukon’s little lake in Zereth Mortis. You can use the same coords as the fishing spot at the beginning of this guide. Fishing at this cluster will pull up Hirukon, whom you can now kill to get the Deepstar Polyp guaranteed.
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you have killed Hirukon already that day, wait until the next day to summon him or you WILL NOT receive your mount.
