Guide
The Rusted Proto-Drake is rewarded by acquiring the achievement “Glory of the Ulduar Raider“. All the achievements required to complete “Glory of the Ulduar Raider” are soloable and are fairly easy since many of them require you to one shot bosses in the raid “Ulduar”. Ideally, you would want to do that with level 70 character but it is possible to complete with lower level character since the bosses in the Ulduar raid are level 30.
The “Ulduar” raid does not have difficulty changes to it does not matter on which difficulty your raid is set to, however, the raid size can be adjusted to either 10 or 25 which also does not matter while completing “Glory of the Ulduar Raider”. There are in total 13 achievements to be completed in order to get “Glory of the Ulduar Raider” and it is possible to get all of those achievement in one lockout.
Additionally, doing this achievement will reward you with one more mount which is Ironbound Proto-Drake.
To begin with this achievement, you will need to head out to Northrend from Wrath of the Lich King expansion.
The easiest way to get to Northrend is to use the portal to Dalaran, Crystalsong Forest in the portal rooms of Stormwind City and Orgrimmar City respectively.
Once you have teleported to Dalaran, Crystalsong Forest, you head out to “Storm Peaks” zone in Northrend where the “Ulduar” raid is located.
From the below list you can chose a guide for specific achievement or follow them in the chronological order they are listed for your convenience.
Orbit-uary
To complete the first achievement, when you enter the raid, you will see an NPC called “Lore Keeper of Norgannon“. Before you move on, you will have to talk to the NPC and go through the dialogue.
Now that you have activated the dialogue with Lore Keeper of Norgannon, you can continue through the raid to the first boss “Flame Leviathan“.
IMPORTANT: Make sure to not attack (pull) and kill any of the adds along to way to the boss as you can fail the achievement.
To spawn the boss “Flame Leviathan” all you have to do is kill all the adds in front of the gate from where the boss will spawn.
Once you kill all the adds and the boss spawns, just nuke down the boss and you will be awarded the achievement Orbit-uary.
Stokin’ the Furnace
For the next achievement, all you have to do is head over to the boss “Ignis the Furnace Master” and nuke him as fast as possible to be awarded the achievement “Stokin’ the Furnace“.
Iron Dwarf, Medium Rare
For the next achievement you will need to use one of the 3 methods mentioned below in order not to one shot it. This is important because if any of the adds or the boss dies before you complete the requirement for the achievement, the achievement will fail and you will have to wait for weekly reset to try again.
Note: For this achievement you can use the track option to make completing this achievement easier. The track button can be seen from above image right below the “Iron Dwarf” picture.
To start the achievement, head over to the boss “Razorscale“.
Now that you have your equipment removed, you can start the encounter by talking to the NPC “Expedition Commander“.
Once you start the encounter, do not attack anything but rather pull the all the adds and keep them stacked for the time being. You will need to have 25 “Dark Rune Guardian Dwarfs”. As the adds are spawning, they will be attacking friendly NPC’s around the room. Do not attack the adds and just let them kill all the friendly NPC’s which will automatically transfer them to you.
After a while the harpoons will be built. Once you are sure you have enough “Dark Rune Guardian Dwarfs”, you will need to remain afk for a while. The reason for this is because in order for the boss to cast “Flame breath” which is required for the achievement it has to enrage either by damaging it below 50% or by waiting the enrage timer which is around 10 minutes.
There are 2 alternative ways to not one shot the boss if you do not want to wait for the enrage timer.
1. You can use the toy “Whole-Body Shrinka’“. This toy will greatly decrease your damage which will allow you to get the boss down below 50% without instantly killing it.
2. You can get killed in any way (for example by falling from a flying mount) outside of the raid and take the “Resurrection sickness” debuff by clicking on “Release spirit” after you die and then instead of releasing where your corpse is, talk to the “Spirit Healer” and accept the resurrection sickness. Keep in mind that the debuff lasts only 10 minutes so you would need to return to the boss very quickly in order to have the debuff for the encounter.
Note: If for some reason, your level 70 character, even without equipment one shots the boss, you can bring another lower level character to complete this achievement since the boss is level 30, it is a possible to one shot him with one basic attack on a level 70 character.
When the boss enrages once the enrage timer expires or it is below 50% HP, you will need to click all 4 harpoons to bring the boss down. At this point, you have to group and line up all the adds you have collected in front of the boss. Shortly, the boss will do a “Flame Breath” spell which will kill the adds. To complete this achievement, the boss will have to kill 25 of the “Dark Rune Guardian Dwarfs” with the “Flame Breath” ability.
IMPORTANT: If you are tracking the achievement as suggested in this guide, you will be able to see how many dwarves have been killed by the boss. If it is less than 25, you can jump of the ledge in boss room to reset the boss and do it again. The amount of already killed dwarves will not reset, which makes it easier to complete the achievement the second time.
Heartbreaker
For the next achievement you will need to use one of the 2 methods mentioned below in order not to one shot it. This is important because if the boss dies before you complete the requirement for the achievement, the achievement will fail and you will have to wait for weekly reset to try again.
To complete this achievement, you will have to reach the boss “XT-002 Deconstructor“.
Since you need to down the boss below 50% HP for this achievement and not kill it in the process, as mentioned above, you will need to choose one of the alternatives below
After you have chosen one of the 2 methods mentioned above and have lowered the boss below 50% HP, stop attacking it. Once the boss is below 50% HP, after few seconds, it will spawn the “Heart of the Deconstructor“. When the heart spawns, single target kill it and after the heart is dead just nuke the boss to be awarded with the achievement “Heartbreaker“.
I Choose You, Steelbreaker
After you have killed the boss “XT-002 Deconstructor”, right behind the chest with the loot, use the teleport to “Antechamber of Ulduar“.
This achievement is completed by killing “The Assembly of Iron” boss in a specific order.
When you reach “The Assembly of Iron” boss, all you have to do is make sure that you single target kill the small dwarves named “Stormcaller Brundir” and “Runemaster Molgeim” first, and then kill “Steelbreaker” as the last dwarf alive to be awarded the achievement “I Choose You, Steelbreaker“.
IMPORTANT: Make sure to not use any AoE in order to not accidentally kill Steelbreaker before the other 2 dwarfs are dead.
Disarmed
Before you start the achievement “Disarmed”, go and defeat the boss “Algalon the Observer“. This boss is not required for the “Glory of the Ulduar Raider” achievement, however, defeating “Algalon the Observer” will reward you with 2 titles “Starcaller” and “The Astral Walker” which is only a quick detour for 2 amazing titles. If you are not do not want to make the detour, just skip this part of the guide.
Now that we have that out the way, head to the boss “Kologarn” to complete the achievement “Disarmed“.
As you reach the boss “Kologarn” you will notice that there are 3 parts of the boss as a separate nameplate. To complete this achievement, all you have to do is use single target on both of the arms before you kill the body of the boss. You can start with either arm as long as you don’t one shot the body of the boss in the process before both arms are down. Once you have both arms killed, nuke the boss and you will be rewarded with the achievement “Disarmed“.
Crazy Cat Lady
For this achievement, all you have to do is single target kill the patrolling boss “Auriaya“. Do not use any AoE since if you kill any of the cats that surround her, you will fail the achievement.
I Could Say That This Cache Was Rare
For this achievement you will head over to the boss “Hodir”. To complete this achievement, just nuke the boss until he becomes friendly and you will be awarded with achievement “I Could Say That This Cache Was Rare“.
Lose Your Illusion
IMPORTANT: Before we begin with the next achievement, it is important to note that after you kill the boss “Hodir”, each titan you defeat and becomes friendly, will show up the the initial room where the boss “Auriaya” is located. The titans you defeated will be friendly and allow you to talk to them. However, it is very important to not click on any of those friendly titans and do not activate any dialogue because you will not able to complete the last achievement from “Glory of the Ulduar Raider” achievement.
To begin this achievement, head over to the boss “Thorim“. It is recommended that you remove all of your equipment from your character before starting this achievement.
Firstly, when you enter the boss room, you will want to kill all the adds in the center of the boss room.
After you have done that, activate the lever on the west side of the room, which will lead you straight to the boss. On the way to the boss, make sure to kill all the adds.
Once you have done that, you will reach the boss “Thorim“. At this point, auto attack the boss once and he will jump down the the center of the boss room where you started and you will be awarded the achievement “Lose Your Illusion” at which point you can just nuke the boss.
Knock, Knock, Knock on Wood
For this achievement you will head to the boss “Freya“.
To complete this achievement, all you have to do is reach the boss without attacking or pulling any of the adds along the way in the boss room. When you reach the boss, just nuke it and you will be awarded with the achievement “Knock, Knock, Knock on Wood“.
Firefighter
For the next achievement, you will head to the boss “Mimiron“.
Note: Before you can reach Mimiron, you will find yourself on a train. Use the controller on the train to activate it which will take you to Mimiron.
Once you reach Mimiron boss room, before you engage the boss, right behind him you will see a big red button. Get close to the button without pulling the boss and click on it.
When you push the red button, you will activate the hard mode of the boss. At this point, just nuke the boss that appears in the center of the room and you will be awarded with the achievement “Firefighter“.
Note: The fight will take a while while Mimiron spawns few bosses, nuke every boss he spawns to finish the encounter
I Love the Smell of Saronite in the Morning
For the next achievement, if you defeated Mimiron before doing it, teleport back to “Conservatory of Life“. Once you are there, head over to the boss “General Vezax“.
When you reach the boss, body pull the boss without damage and stand still. After a while you will see a message across the screen saying “A saronite barrier appears around General Vezax!” and the add “Saronite Animus” will spawn. This process takes a few minutes so just wait.
At this point, single target kill “Saronite Animus” and after it is dead, nuke the boss to be awarded the achievement “I Love the Smell of Saronite in the Morning“.
IMPORTANT: Make sure not to use AoE while killing Saronite Animus in order not to kill the boss before Saronite Animus is dead.
One Light In the Darkness / Alone in the Darkness
For this achievement, you will head to the last boss of the raid called “Yogg-Saron“.
If you have not spoken with it any of the titan NPC’s in the boss room of “Auriaya” as it is mentioned and advised in the achievement “Lose your Illusion“, all you will need to do is nuke down the boss to be awarded the achievement “Alone in the Darkness” since the requirement for this achievement is to not have any of the titans help you out to defeat the boss.
Additionally, killing this boss will give you a chance of acquiring another mount called “Mimiron’s Head” so good luck!
When you have completed all the achievements above, you will be awarded “Glory of the Ulduar Raider” achievement and the mounts “Ironbound Proto-Drake” and “Rusted Proto-Drake“.
