Guide
The Gold-Toed Albatross mount can be purchased from Provisioner Qorra in Tyrhold Reservoir, Thaldraszus for 3000 Paracausal Flakes. Alternatively, it can drop from any Time Rift end boss or from the Box of Collapsed Reality.
Provisioner Qorra is located in the Tyrhold Reservoir, just east of Valdrakken, in Thaldraszus. She is standing in a group speaking to Warden Krizzik and Falara Nightsong.
Now, let’s get into what Time Rifts are, how to complete them as well as some tips!
What is a Time Rift?
Time Rifts are a world event where you work together with other players to fill the Temporal Essence bar at the top of your screen. You will be assigned various tasks such as completing puzzles, killing enemies, or collecting quest items. It is similar to other world events such as the Community Feast in Iskaara and the Big Dig in Traitor’s Rest.
A Time Rift starts every hour on the hour e.g. 10am, 11am, etc. and they last for roughly 15 minutes.
To begin, head to the Tyrhold Reservoir when the event is starting. You must speak to Soridormi who will have a dialogue option for you to start the Time Rift. If you leave the area for whatever reason, you will have to speak Soridormi again to participate.
Once you’ve talked to Soridormi, you will have to complete various tasks for around 10 minutes. Doing these tasks will earn you Paracausal Flakes. Whenever someone in the area completes a task, the group will earn progress on the Temporal Essence bar. At 2500 Temporal Essence, you will earn a green box. At 5000, a blue box. And at 7500, you will receive a purple box called Box of Collapsed Reality. This purple box specifically has a chance to contain a mount like the Sulfur Hound, among other things.
After ~10 minutes, phase 1 will be complete and phase 2 will become active. During the second phase, you will head to the middle of Tyrhold Reservoir where there will be a portal to an alternative reality. Upon entering the portal, you will have to fight a “Fractured Causality” boss.
Once becoming attackable, the boss will take on the form of another NPC such as Illidan Stormrage or the Lich King and will use abilities like that character too. It seems to scale to the amount of people present but may be hard to solo if you’re undergeared. Upon defeating the boss, you can possibly receive item(s) such as a mount, transmog, etc.
Earning Paracausal Flakes
Every task you complete during a Time Rift will grant you 30 Paracausal Flakes. Killing the final boss will net you 150 Flakes. Lastly, you will receive 2 Flakes per mob killed during the event.
There is a weekly quest called When Time Needs Mending that you can pick up from Soridormi. Turning it in will grant you a Contained Paracausality. Opening it will reward you with several items, including a Paracausal Cluster that will grant you 1000 Paracausal Flakes upon use.
There’s also a daily quest in the Everywhere Inn which is found in Eon’s Fringe, Thaldraszus.
The quest will be offered by one of the regular NPCs in the inn or even a random visitor and it will grant you 70 Flakes upon turn in. These quests usually deal with important characters or events in Azeroth’s history. An example of this is helping Malfurion gain Tyrande’s affection when they were young in ancient Val’sharah in the quest Star-Crossed Lovers.
Turning in one time quest items related to the Temporal Acquisitions Specialist achievement will net you 50 Paracausal Flakes per. Some of them spawn in phase one while others are inside the portal in phase 2. The items are either found on the ground or given by a NPC. You should see a quest exclamation mark on minimap when there’s one nearby. Example items: An Antlered Skull and Blood-Soaked Book. If you’re a fan of lore like me, you can interact with the items on the tables behind Soridormi after giving them to her. Doing so lets you learn a bit about the item and the timeline it’s from.
Lastly, Paracausal Flakes can be used to purchase all Time Rift mounts if you do not receive them from the end boss or purple box. Besides the Gold-Toed Albatross, these mounts include: Gold-Toed Albatross, Perfected Juggernaut, Felstorm Dragon, Scourgebound Vanquisher, Ravenous Black Gryphon, and the White War Wolf. The last two listed are less straightforward than the others and I will touch on that in their respective articles.
Tips & Other Info
Encapsulated Destiny is a reward from the first daily quest in Eon’s Fringe you complete per week. It is also a reward for completing the weekly quest offered by Soridormi. Using this item applies a buff that will guarantee an item drop from the next Time Rift you complete, which could very well be a mount so I’d suggest using them as much as possible. Do not click off the buff though or you will lose the effect! You can also get one Greater Encapsulated Destiny upon reaching rank 4 reputation with Soridormi which is guaranteed to drop a mount or battle pet you do not have.
I would strongly suggest looking in group finder to find others trying to complete this event, especially if you’re not on a large server. It is very hard to reach the blue and purple box rewards with only a small number of people participating.
