Guide
The Unsuccessful Prototype Fleetpod mount is crafted via the Protoform Synthesis system in Zereth Mortis. It is crafted by combining 300 Genesis Motes, 1 Tools of Incomprehensible Experimentation & 1 Helicid Lattice at the Protoform Repository. This mount is slower than most with a 110% ground speed however it is usable at level 1.
How to unlock Zereth Mortis
To get to Zereth Mortis, you must have completed chapter 2 in the 9.1 (Korthia) campaign. The last quest required is Charge of the Covenants. After it is completed, you should get a popup to start the Zereth Mortis (9.2) campaign. You get a portal to Zereth Mortis on the top floor of Oribos after completing the This Old Waystone quest which is part of the campaign. If you leave Zereth Mortis before completing that quest, you can speak to Tal-Inara in Oribos to return.
How to unlock Protoform Synthesis
To unlock Protoform Synthesis, you must complete up to the end of Chapter 3 in the 9.2 campaign. You will receive the quest Cyphers of the First Ones which unlocks the Cypher Console. The Cypher Console is powered by Cyphers of the First Ones currency.
You can earn Cyphers of the First Ones from several activities. Here are some examples:
• 10-15 daily from World Quests in Zereth Mortis
• 62-70 weekly from Tribute of the Enlightened Elders which is the reward from Patterns within Patterns
• 80 weekly from killing the World Boss, Antros.
• 2-4 per rare killed or treasure looted.
Dealic Understanding and Sopranian Understanding circled in yellow above.
You will need 200 Cyphers to unlock the Dealic Understanding tree which takes 3 days and 18 hours to research. Once that is done, you will then need 220 more Cyphers to unlock Sopranian Understanding which takes 5 days and 18 hours to research. After your research is complete, you will get a questline starting with Finding Tahli that will eventually unlock the Protoform Repository where you can craft mounts.
Above is the location of Protoform Repository.

To start off, you will need to collect the Schematic: Unsuccessful Prototype Fleetpod so you have the ability to craft this mount. You will need to have researched Metrial Understanding and Aealic Understanding in the Cypher Console. You also need to have completed the achievement A Means to an End which requires you to complete the 6th chapter of the Zereth Mortis Campaign.
You will have to unlock access to the room you’re going to get the schematic from. To unlock it, you must go to the very top of the Resonant Peaks. You can get there by using the Locus Shift teleportation system or by flying. There will be a triangular building guarded by two Cradle Keepers. Go to the back side of this building and in the middle, there should be a rune to click on. I will include a picture of it below. This rune will unlock the room that’s needed to get the schematic.
Now you will be going to the room you just unlocked! You must first gather at least 60 cosmic energy which powers the Locus Shift teleportation system. A cosmic energy bar will appear on your screen when you’re in the general Resonant Peaks area so you can check your progress. You get energy by killing creatures and collecting their gold orbs with a white glow that appear on the ground. You can also slowly gain this energy by standing in a glowing white pool. See below for an example of what the pools and orbs look like.
Now that you’ve collected 60 cosmic energy, you want to head to the Gravid Repose. This place is also in the Resonant Peaks. The outside has a Cradle Keeper standing guard and triangular archway that leads down into a cave.
Head inside the Gravid Repose. You are going to use the Locus Shift teleportation system located in the middle of the room. Click on it then select the option to go to the Interior Locus. Once inside the Interior Locus room, DO NOT interact with the Locus Shift in the middle. Instead, head to the one that is behind it.
Once you have interacted with the second Locus Shift in the back of the room, select the Camber Alcove. This is the room you unlocked earlier! Inside this room, you will see an Inert Prototype and multiple Sodiate Dust Piles. Interact with the Inert Prototype to start a minigame. This minigame will shrink you and put you in a small snail vehicle. You will begin moving at a constant but slow speed. You must guide the snail through five glowing rings around the room while avoiding the Sodiate Dust Piles. Hitting a dust pile will cause you to move slower. If you hit three, you will be removed from the vehicle and forced to try again. Upon passing through five glowing rings, you exit the vehicle and will now be able to loot the Prototype Schematic treasure that appears on the floor. Schematic: Unsuccessful Prototype Fleetpod will be inside! You can leave this room by using the Locus Shift teleporter to go to the Arcae Locus and then using the Locus Shift again in the middle of the next room to go to the Gravid Repose Locus.
Next, you will need Tools of Incomprehensible Experimentation. This item has a low drop chance off of Lihuvim, the 7th boss of the Sepulcher of the First Ones raid. This item can be looted on any difficulty. As of 10.1.5, you can solo queue for all Shadowlands LFR. To do so, you must go to Oribos and speak to the NPC Ta’elfar to queue. Ta’elfar is located in the Enclave section of Oribos, very close to the Necrolord recruiters. Lihuvim is in the “Cornerstone of Creation” section of LFR but you must first kill Dausegne and the Prototype Pantheon before you are able to get to them.
Now you will need a Helicid Lattice. These are purchasable on the auction house. If you prefer to farm it yourself, it has a low drop chance from Helicid mobs in Zereth Mortis.
Lastly, you will need 300 Genesis Motes. They drop from most mobs in Zereth Mortis. You must farm these crafting reagents yourself. I would suggest the following farming spot, Devourers spawn regularly from the blue portal and the automa NPCs in the area will help you kill them.
After you have gathered all of the required materials, head over to the Protoform Repository. You can now craft your Unsuccessful Prototype Fleetpod!
