How to unlock Nazjatar
To unlock Nazjatar, you must be level 50 and have completed the A Nation Divided quest if you’re Alliance or Welcome to Zuldazar if you’re Horde. You must also have the Heart of Azeroth unlocked which starts with A Dying World. Once you have done these steps, you should look for the quest The Wolf’s Offensive OR Send The Fleet given by Genn Greymane on the Alliance ship in Boralus if you’re Alliance. For Horde, you should look for the quest The Warchief’s Orders OR Send The Fleet given by Nathanos on the Horde ship in the Port of Zuldazar. Following the aforementioned questline will send you to Nazjatar.
The Inkscale Deepseeker mount can be purchased from Tomas Riogain (Alliance) or Dazzerian (Horde) for 150 Nazjatar Battle Commendations. These NPCs are the Nazjatar PvP Quartermasters and can be found in Mezzamere and Newhome respectively.

/way #1355 38 55.4 Tomas Riogain
Nazjatar Battle Commendations can only be obtained through Warmode On. You can toggle Warmode On in Orgrimmar, Stormwind and Valdrakken via the bottom right of your talents page. Warmode On enables world PvP which means that you can be killed by an opposing faction player anywhere in the world except rest areas. Warmode can be toggled off in any rest area.
The most effective way of earning Nazjatar Battle Commendations is by killing and looting rare mobs in Nazjatar. All rares have a guaranteed chance of dropping a Commendation and you can farm the same one multiple times.
Below I’ve provided a map of most of the rares and their coordinates. Rares with multiple spawn points were not included due to clutter but I will go over them later in this guide. Additionally, the red stars indicate which have spawn quirks. I define a spawn quirk rare as one that requires more effort than simply finding and killing them.

Rares with spawn quirks
Anemonar is normally untargetable. To activate him, you are required to drag a Colossal Sky Ray mob on top of him and then kill it. Sky Rays are very slow and have a short leash range. Make sure to stay relatively close so it doesn’t reset.
Banescale the Packfather has a small chance to spawn after you kill the rare Siltstalker the Packmother.
Kelpwillow is untargetable. To activate him, you must use a Prismatic Crystal on a Muck Slug critter and bring it to him. Prismatic Crystals are generally found in or around waterfalls.
King Galuka is spawned by clicking on 100 Bloodfin Tadpoles. He will yell in chat for roughly every 25 that are scared. More information about this is under the Terror of the Tadpoles section!
Oronu is another untargetable tree and requires activation. You need to summon the pet Drowned Hatchling and walk over him. You can buy this pet from Feylana the Handler for 40 Prismatic Manapearls. She is located in the Drowned Market at waypoint 73 46. Having a friend use their pet to activate Oronu also works.
Scale Matriarch Gratinaz, Vynara and Zodia share a respawn timer so only one will be up at a time. Spawns are random so the same one can spawn multiple times in a row. Their respawn time is between 1-2 hours and users have reported that killing other hydras in the area might make them more likely to spawn.
Tidelord Aquatus and Dispersius require you to kill three Azh’ari Invokers to summon them. Their spawn is not guaranteed.
Tidemistress Leth’sindra requires you to click five Undisturbed Specimen eggs in the area before she will spawn. They look like normal void eggs but can be interacted with.
Spawn locations of the eggs at:
/way #1355 66.88 22.22 Egg 1
/way #1355 65.69 23.46 Egg 2
/way #1355 67 24.75 Egg 3
/way #1355 65.91 24.7 Egg 4
/way #1355 65.27 19.5 Egg 5
Urduu is the last untargetable tree rare. He requires you to pull a Staghorn Reefwalker to him and kill it on top of him.
Voice in the Deeps requires you to loot the item Molted Shell located at the coordinates 68.05 37.43 and then remove the rock pile at coords 67.22 34.5 with it.
Rares with multiple spawn points
Amethyst Spireshell can spawn in a large number of locations around the map. It is usually found in high places but can even be found in caves. The low effort way to find it is by flying around with a /tar Amethyst Spireshell macro. If you don’t find one, you can cause it to spawn by killing Sea Spireshells/Prismatic Spireshells. A good place to do this is in the Bloodfin Village as it has a high density of these mobs.
Daggertooth Terror has multiple spawn points. It always spawns in water and can be found in surprisingly shallow water so make sure to check all rivers and lakes.
Garnetscale has multiple spawn points as well but they’re all condensed to the Ashen Strand area in the western part of the map. If you don’t see it, try spam killing Razorshell Turtles.
Mirecrawler is just like the Spireshell where it can spawn in a large amount of different locations. If you can’t find it, killing Sea Spireshells and Muck Creepers can cause it to spawn. A good place to farm these is in the Ashen Strand.
Needlespine has a handful of spawn points. They are all around the top half of the map and always near water. The biggest clump of spawnpoints is the river and lake area that’s east of Zanj’ir Terrace and south of Gate of the Queen.
Sandclaw Stoneshell has multiple spawn points in the northwestern part of the map around the Drowned Market, Zin’Azshari & Kal’methir areas.
Shiz’narasz the Consumer has various spawn points but it ONLY spawns in water in the Chitterspine Caverns part of the map (water area around Gate of The Queen).
Toxigore the Alpha is the final multiple spawn rare and she only spawns in the Nar’anan part of the map which is just south of Kal’Methir.
Note: Rockweed Shambler, Sandcastle and Soundless have been excluded because they require a disproportionate amount of effort for this guide in particular. If you’d still like to learn about them, I covered all three in the rare section of my Snapback Scuttler guide.
Other ways to obtain Commendations
Commendations can also be earned through a couple more methods. The first is via War Supply Chests that drop roughly every 30 minutes. An NPC will announce them when they spawn and you will see a little plane emoji on your map which you can use to track where it will land. When it lands, it will emit a large beam of light as shown below and you have to channel opening the chest to claim it for your faction.
Secondly, they can be earned through a world event only available in Warmode On called Battle for Nazjatar and the weekly PvP world quest that comes with it. This event only comes up when there is a good mix of Horde and Alliance in Nazjatar. Unfortunately, now that the zone is less active, it does not spawn very often. When the zone doesn’t have enough players for the Battle, the Azshara’s Elite Commanders event will spawn instead. When this event comes up, you will get a message in your chat informing you that the naga commanders have appeared. Additionally, you should be able to see five little purple skulls on your map.
These skulls are the locations of the Elite Commanders and killing each of the five will award a Commendation.
